New Funding Expands Made-in-Ontario Solution to Northern Ontario's Veterinary Care Shortage
A new $10‑million grant from Kim and Stu Lang's Angel Gabriel Foundation is propelling the next phase of OVC’s Medical and Surgical Learning Centre (MSLC), moving the project to 75% of its fundraising goal and allowing construction plans to advance. The gift, made through OVC Pet Trust, will support expanded hands‑on training in surgery, medicine, dentistry and clinical skills for Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students—including those in the Collaborative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program (CDVMP) serving Northern Ontario.

The MSLC will also become the new home for the Community Healthcare Partnership Program (CHPP), strengthening OVC’s partnerships with First Nations communities, Humane Societies, the Ontario SPCA and other animal care organizations.
This latest contribution is part of the Langs’ longstanding philanthropic commitment to improving access to veterinary care across Ontario. Their combined support for OVC and Lakehead University now totals $20 million toward CDVMP expansion and infrastructure, including funding for Lakehead’s new Gakina Awesiinyag animal education facility.
