Equipment

Our telescope is a 14" diameter, Schmidt-Cassegrain, Celestron C-14 mounted on an Astro-Physics GTO 1200 mount. The telescope has a focal length of 3910 mm, is f/11 without a reducer (f/7 with), and has four eyepieces available for use. The telescope is used by our astronomy classes in the fall and by the Astronomy Club. Portable ground based telescopes are also available.

Observatory Tour Information

The Physics department will advertise any public observatory events via our social media accounts and the departmental events section. We are gearing up to accommodate tour group requests.

Objects you can expect to see, depending on the time of year, include the moon, planets like Venus, Jupiter (and its moons) and Saturn (its rings and its moons) in addition to Messier objects and common stars. If you are interested in a tour of the observatory - which includes a brief astronomy lecture prior to heading up to the observatory - or have any questions, please contact physics.eventsadmin@uoguelph.ca. A tour guide would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
