Food Systems and the City

Submitted by dfoolen on July 29th, 2021 11:59 AM

Dr. Karen Landman [1], along with co-author Dr. Alison Blay-Palmer (Wilfrid Laurier University), contributed a chapter to Canadian Cities in Transition; Understanding Contemporary Urbanism [2] (Oxford University Press, 2020, 6th Edition), which has been recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners with an Award for Planning Excellence Merit in the Planning Publications and Media category [3].

Dr. Landman and Dr. Blay-Palmer’s chapter is entitled Food Systems and the City. The 6th edition, with 36 authors, is a continuation of the collaborative work of Professor Pierre Filion and Professor Trudi Bunting (1944-2017) of the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo. The original vision for the Canadian Cities in Transition series was to draw on Canadian academics to make Canadian planning, urban studies and urban geography accessible to a broader audience, particularly for undergraduate students. The series is currently edited by Dr. Markus Moos (University of Waterloo), Dr. Ryan Walker (University of Saskatchewan) and Dr Tara Vinodrai (University of Waterloo).

About Us

The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development (SEDRD) brings together major academic fields concerned with creating strong communities, in Canada and around the world. The four highly respected programs in SEDRD share many common goals but approach them in different and complementary ways. This model reflects the imperatives in building authentic communities where planners, landscape architects, communicators, and citizens all play important interdependent roles in community strength.
