What helps Women at U of G advance their professional goals?

To celebrate the launch of GenEQ, more than 200 U of G faculty, staff and student leaders came together and shared ideas for moving the initiative forward.

Guests were invited to comment on three questions that will help shape U of G's gender equity efforts:

  1. What has been most helpful to you in advancing your leadership and/or your professional goals?
  2. What are the challenges you face in achieving your leadership and professional goals?
  3. Share your ideas on what this initiative needs to address to advance women in leadership at U of G.

This is what was shared:

  1. Financial Support
    Provide funding for women's research endeavours.
  2. Recognition
    Find ways to recognize women's ideas, skills and accomplishments.
  3. Supportive Families
    Share caregiving and household chores.
  4. Education
    Make women's credentials and offer opportunities for learning.
  5. Role Models
    Ensure that women see other women advancing and succeeding.
  6. Supportive Colleagues
    Encourage, appreciate and listen to women.
  7. Job-Related Competencies
    Give women opportunities to gain new skills and knowledge.
  8. Stretch Opportunities
    Offer opportunities for progressive growth.
  9. Encouragement
    Urge coworkers to take risks.
  10. Mentorship
    People of all genders can provide women with career guidance.
