Genus Strongygaster Macquart, 1834

STRONGYGASTER Macquart, 1834: 211 (also 1834: 75). Type species: Tachina globula Meigen, 1824, by monotypy [Palearctic].
CLISTOMORPHA Townsend, 1892d: 79. Type species: Clistomorpha hyalomoides Townsend, 1892 (= Hyalomyia triangulifera Loew, 1863), by original designation.
HYALOMYODES Townsend, 1893b: 429. Type species: Hyalomyodes weedii Townsend, 1893 (= Hyalomyia triangulifer Loew, 1863), by monotypy.


californica (Townsend, 1908).– California, ?British Columbia (S&A, 1965).
– Hyalomyodes californicus Townsend, 1908: 126. Type data: holotype male [not female as published] (USNM). Type locality: USA, California, Santa Clara County.


didyma (Loew, 1863).– California, Alberta, South Dakota to New York, south to Colorado and Virginia (S&A, 1965), Alaska, Yukon, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec (CNC).
– Xysta didyma Loew, 1863: 320. Type data: holotype female (MCZ). Type locality: USA, Illinois.


robusta (Townsend, 1908).– British Columbia, Washington, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, Nova Scotia to Pennsylvania (S&A, 1965), Ontario, New Brunswick, North Carolina (CNC).
– Hyalomyodes robustus Townsend, 1908: 125. Type data: holotype male (USNM). Type locality: USA, New Mexico, White Mountains, North Fork of Rio Ruidoso, 8200 feet (on flowers of Solidago trinervata).


triangulifera (Loew, 1863).– British Columbia to Nova Scotia, south to California, Mexico, and Georgia (S&A, 1965).
– Hyalomyia triangulifera Loew, 1863: 319. Type data: syntypes, 2 females [not males as published] (MCZ) (mention of a "Ht" by Townsend, 1938: 201, is not a lectotype fixation because the specimen in question is not distinguishable from the other specimen in the type series). Type locality: USA, New York.
– Clistomorpha hyalomoides Townsend, 1892d: 80. Type data: holotype female [not male as published; corrected to female by Townsend, 1938: 200] (SEMK). Type locality: USA, New York, Ithaca.
– Hyalomyodes weedii Townsend, 1893b: 430. Type data: lectotype male (SEMK), by fixation of Townsend, 1938: 201 (mention of "Ht male" from Hanover is regarded as a lectotype fixation for the single male syntype from that locality). Type locality: USA, New Hampshire, Hanover.
