Genus Xanthomelanodes Townsend, 1893

XANTHOMELANA van der Wulp, 1892: 188 (junior homonym of Xanthomelana Bonaparte, 1850 or later). Type species: Xanthomelana gracilenta van der Wulp, 1892, by subsequent designation of Coquillett, 1910b: 620 [Neotropical].
XANTHOMELANODES Townsend, 1893d: 167 (nomen novum for Xanthomelana van der Wulp, 1892).
ERYTHROPHASIA Townsend, 1917a: 127. Type species: Erythrophasia atripennis Townsend, 1917 (= Phasia atripennis Say, 1829), by original designation.

arcuatus (Say, 1829).– Washington, California to Wisconsin to New Hampshire, south to Mexico and Florida (S&A, 1965), Ontario to New Brunswick and Maine, also British Columbia (CNC).
– Ocyptera arcuata Say, 1829: 173 (also published in LeConte, 1859: 365). Type data: type(s) (lost). Type locality: USA, Indiana.

atripennis (Say, 1829).– Michigan to Vermont, south to Arkansas and Florida, also ?Mexico (S&A, 1965).
– Phasia atripennis Say, 1829: 172 (also published in LeConte, 1859: 363). Type data: type(s) (lost). Type locality: USA, Indiana.
– Tachina corythus Walker, 1849: 797. Type data: holotype male (BMNH). Type locality: USA, Georgia.
