NEW! TA Assignment of Work Agreements

UPDATED Fall 2020

It is the joint responsibility of the supervisor and the TA to ensure that the total hours of work as defined in the Offer are not exceeded on a weekly and/or semesterly basis. A meeting to discuss responsibilities and estimated hours of work, and complete the TA Work Agreement, must be held within five (5) days of the commencement of employment. This meeting shall be included in the assigned hours of work.

This meeting is the opportunity for supervisors to share their teaching philosophy and strategies for engaging students with the course content, and clarify performance expectations. This meeting sets the stage for ongoing questions and dialogue, helps alleviate some of the anxiety that TAs may feel from not knowing the supervisor’s expectations, and may reduce the likelihood of problems down the road. The University of Delaware has produced a brief Faculty Guide for Supervising and Mentoring Graduate Teaching Assistants.

The TA Work Agreement should be as comprehensive as possible.

  • NEW: Any assigned grading MUST include the dates by which grading must be completed.
  • It is the duties and responsibilities as outlined in the TA Assignment of Work Agreement on which any Performance Evaluation of a TA is conducted: "All evaluations shall be in writing and based solely on the performance of those duties specified in the Assignment of Work Agreement." (Article 13).

Supervisors and their TAs will coordinate as to how they will complete the TA Work Agreement.  They have the option of

  1. Completing the Fillable TA Work Agreement template (UPDATED F20)
  2. Completing the TA Work Agreement template to print and complete by hand (UPDATED F20)
  3. Using the form provided by the academic unit
  4. Or the form found in the TAs Profile
  5. Or in any other format consistent with the Collective Agreement.

Details related to a work assignment are available for copying and pasting from the "Acceptance of the TA Offer" email, as well as from the system.

Printing details of a work assignment from the site, from "My Inbox":

  • Go to My Teaching Assistant (TA/GSA-1) Activities - > My TA/GSA-1 Offers with Responses & Work Agreements
  • Filter on Semester and Active / Offer Accepted Records
  • Print the TA Work Agreement from the far-right column.  This form is populated from components of the Posting (i.e., Academic Unit, Course Code and Title, Period of the Work Agreement, Anticipated Duties, and Responsibilities), and the Applicant Profile (i.e., TA name and courses taken: Making Education Accessible, Accessible Service Provision Training and EHS Worker Health and Safety Awareness courses) and the Offer (i.e., Supervisor, Level of Appointment).
    • NOTE: Remind TAs to upload the certificates for the required courses to their profile. This will ensure the work agreement accurately reflects the completion of these courses.
  • While this is not a form-fillable form, the contents of which can be copied and pasted into the available templates (see above).
  • It remains the responsibility of the supervisor and the TA to complete the Hours and Details for each duty. Any assigned grading MUST include the dates by which grading must be completed.
  • The TA also has access to the Work Agreement in their Profile - > My TA/GSA-1 Work Assignment Dashboard - > Print Assignment of Work Agreement(s) for Accepted Offer(s).
