Bioinformatics is an integral part of the biological sciences. The goal of this course is to understand how fundamental methods inbioinformatics work and to understand how to use them. We will focus on biological questions in current research, and students willpresent papers to the class that utilize bioinformatics to address key and current biological questions. As much as possible,bioinformatics methods will be presented within the context of application. The key areas of bioinformatics that we will cover are:database content, access, and understanding; genetic and physical mapping; genome sequencing; pairwise and multiple sequencealignment methods; sequence motif analysis methods; and phylogenetics.

Post quizzes to courselink and ensure their functionality. Help troubleshoot students' technical problems with bioinformatics software.
Required Qualifications: 
Strong knowledge of bioinformatics software, background in statistics, molecular biology and genetics, excellent verbal and written skills, familiarity with programming, molecular data manipulation Experience with Python , UNIX, and R is favoured.
Preferred Qualifications: 
Experience with computational analysis of molecular data A solid background in bioinformatics software, programming, statistics, molecular biology and genetics is strongly preferred.
Days Required and Wages
Days and Times Required: 
Laboratories are Wednesday 2:30-4:20 pm
Period of the Work Assignment (Start Date and End Date): 
September 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022
Wage Rate (per hour, per semester, per Full-load 1.0 Work Assignment): 
GTA $43.73/hr; $6125.96/semester effective 2022/23
