Other Duties Described: 
UTA will be required to attend all mandatory TA meetings and training, including introductory meeting/training to be scheduled January 5-9, 2026. 1) The successful candidate will provide student support during weekly lab-help sessions throughout the semester (weeks 2-12, Monday/Tuesday afternoons, 3:30-6:30 pm). 2) Candidates will NOT be expected to engage with students in a support fashion outside of these hours (i.e. no email Q&A). 3) A regular meeting time will be scheduled to review labs the with undergraduate lab supervisor with co-workers, discuss expected student issues, and prepare for help sessions. 4) A portion of the position will include lab grading, which will be conducted online within Courselink, guided by a detailed marking scheme. Any grading assigned should be returned to students within a firm deadline (7 days maximum, or as stated by supervisor).
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

Applicants must: a) Be enrolled in a Physics graduate program; b) Have completed a B.Sc. degree in Physics or a related field; c) Previous experience as a teaching assistant in lab/tutorial settings; d) Proven ability to communicate with students effectively, while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment; e) Be able to demonstrate an ability to create and maintain a safe work place; f) Be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for teaching; g) Applicants must also be able to provide documentation indicating they have completed the following training programs: Worker Health & Safety Awareness (EHS), Accessible Service Provision (CourseLink) and Making Education Accessible (CourseLink). Please note: By applying for this work assignment, you are agreeing to be available on campus from the start of the contract to complete all assigned duties, available to attend all mandatory meetings, complete accurate and consistent marking by assigned deadlines with written feedback, invigilate and grade midterm exams, and be available to the end of the contract to invigilate and grade final exams. Although every effort will be made to assign TAs to their preferred days/times, we cannot guarantee to meet your preference. You should be prepared to accept any available time slot, except for incidences when an assignment conflicts with a graduate course for which you are enrolled. Selection of successful candidates will be made in accordance with Article 11.04 of the CUPE 3913-1 collective agreement. Estimated Hours Breakdown: Lab & Grading Preparation: 5 hours, meetings scheduled regularly, in advance of help sessions. Help Sessions: 15 hours (weeks 2-12); flexibility to fit candidate’s courses, within the course help-session schedule. Online Grading: 48 hours (can be done flexibly within time leading up to deadline for lab grading submission) Supervisor consultation/meetings: 2 hours
