This course includes weekly scheduled (alternating 3-hour lab/2.5-hour tutorial) sections, which will be delivered in-person. These sections are scheduled to run Monday through Thursday, with start times of 8:30 am, 11:30 am, 2:30 pm and 7:00 pm (see WebAdvisor for complete details of the W26 schedule – additional sections may open based on student enrollment). Lab sections will be led by a GTA, with a UTA acting in a supporting capacity. Tutorial sections will be run by a single TA. Assigned TA duties will emphasize either Lab or Tutorial, which will require teaching assistants to attend 2-4 OF THE SCHEDULED SECTIONS, on weekly or bi-weekly basis. Candidates for this position can specify in their application a preference for an emphasis on the Lab or Tutorial roles, if desired.

Other Duties Described: 
1) Candidates will be required to attend mandatory meetings with the Lab Coordinator to complete lab work prior to running the lab sections. This work will be coordinated and supervised by the Lab Coordinator. 2) Any grading assigned should be returned to students within a reasonable time period (7 days maximum, or as stated by supervisor) 3) There will be the opportunity for some teaching assistants to take on an emphasis in either the Labs or Tutorials for the course. This means that duties on some weeks during the semester will have scheduled in-person sessions with students, and other weeks will involve more extensive grading, which can be done independently and remotely. This work will be coordinated and supervised by the Lab Coordinator & Instructors; associated meetings will be scheduled during the semester, as needed. 4) In all roles, candidates are expected to communicate with supervisors and co-employees in a timely manner, and to adhere to work deadlines as they are presented. NOTE: The Candidate may also be asked to invigilate exams in other in-person undergraduate physics courses.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must: a) Be enrolled in a Physics graduate program; b) Have completed a B.Sc. degree in Physics or a related field; c) Previous experience as a teaching assistant in lab/tutorial settings; d) Proven ability to communicate with students effectively, while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment; e) Be able to demonstrate an ability to create and maintain a safe work place; f) Be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for teaching; g) Applicants must also be able to provide documentation indicating they have completed the following training programs: Worker Health & Safety Awareness (EHS), Accessible Service Provision (CourseLink) and Making Education Accessible (CourseLink). Please note: By applying for this work assignment, you are agreeing to be available on campus from the start of the contract to complete all assigned duties, available to attend all mandatory meetings, complete accurate and consistent marking by assigned deadlines with written feedback, invigilate and grade midterm exams, and be available to the end of the contract to invigilate and grade final exams. Although every effort will be made to assign TAs to their preferred days/times, we cannot guarantee to meet your preference. You should be prepared to accept any available time slot, except for incidences when an assignment conflicts with a graduate course for which you are enrolled. Selection of successful candidates will be made in accordance with Article 11.04 of the CUPE 3913-1 collective agreement. Days and Times Required: 
GTA will be required to attend all mandatory TA meetings and training, including introductory meeting/training to be scheduled January 5-9, 2026 EVEN IF you have already TA'd this course before. The position will require every full-time teaching assistant to run regular weekly time commitments OF 2-3 OF THE SCHEDULED SECTIONS. Lab & Tutorials: Mon, Tue, Wed & Thu 8:30am-11:20am, 11:30am-2:20pm, 2:30pm-5:20pm and 7:00pm-9:50pm. TAs are expected to arrive ~5 minutes in advance of their scheduled assignment to allow students entry into the facilities.
