We have an exciting roster of events lined up for the Winter 2024 semester! 

MakerSpace Workshops

Empower your entrepreneurial journey with our Makerspace Workshop Series! From sewing to 3D modeling and digital content creation, these hands-on sessions will equip students with essential skills to ideate, prototype, and launch innovative ventures whether starting a business, crafting prototypes or merch for an investors pitch, or launching new product lines. Crafting enthusiasts across campus looking to further enhance their skill sets are also welcome.

All MakerSpace Workshops will take place at the John F. Wood MakerSpace, located on the first floor of Macdonald Hall at the University of Guelph.

Intermediate 3D Modeling

Building on our 3D modeling workshop for beginners, this workshop will focus on how to create parts that fit together precisely. Simulations will be conducted to ensure the parts fit prior to print.

Intro to 3D Scanners

In this workshop we will create Play-Doh sculptures, us 3D scanners to create digital versions, and upload them to TinkerCAD where you can alter the designs further. All materials will be provided for this workshop.

Learn to Use the Janome Embroiderer

Have some clothing you want to personalize? Drop by with your t-shirt or sweater to personalize it during this workshop! NOTE: Due to time constraints, only simple two coloured designs can be printed during the workshop. Students are welcome to use the embroiderer at the MakerSpace at any time throughout the semester to complete larger projects.

Learn to Use the Cricut

Come make a custom tote bag using the Cricut to precisely cut out custom designs onto Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV). All materials will be provided for this workshop.

This workshop will walk you through how to use our latest piece of equipment – the laser engraver. Join us to create a custom wood coaster with a design of your choice!

This workshop will walk you through how to use Canva in creating digital content for school assignments, student group promotions, and for social media. Learn all the tips and tricks to making captivating digital designs.

Future You Series

The Future You Series allows students to explore some of the many paths to entrepreneurship. During these one-hour sessions, students can delve into various avenues of entrepreneurship including social entrepreneurship, patent readiness, self-employment, and traditional entrepreneurship which are led by successful entrepreneurs in the field. Aspiring students will walk away inspired to use business as a force for good, knowledge on entrepreneurship, and a network of local business owners and freelancers. Unlock your entrepreneurial potential with the 'Future You' series!

Come join our panel discussion exploring selfemployment avenues: entrepreneurship, freelancing, and business start-ups. Three diverse industry panelists will delve into their firsthand experiences, offering insights, answering queries, and inspiring students about the world of freelancing and self-employment. Do you have a business idea? Are you curious about entrepreneurship? Join us for an informational session on the Hub Incubator and its various programs. During this workshop, we will discuss the three programs and how you can apply to the Hub, unlocking opportunities to turn your ideas into reality. Funding opportunities of up to $4000 are available to help you start your own business.
