Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Guelph integrates mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering with artificial intelligence. This multidisciplinary program equips students with the skills to design hardware and software for automation, autonomous systems, and smart, computer-controlled devices. A distinct feature of our curriculum is the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). The program emphasizes problem-solving, project management, and communication, preparing students to become specialists in automation, intelligent systems, advanced manufacturing and robotics. By emphasizing collaboration and integration, students acquire practical design-based skills that allow them to apply effective solutions in the workplace.
Students can obtain a degree of specialization in one of the areas below:

- Students begin their first work term after completing two years of their academic program and mastering the core skills needed to integrate into the workplace
- Co-op students complete a full semester course focused on job search skills and professionalism in the workplace
- Students are available for four or eight-month work terms

Student Strengths
Knowledge
Solid knowledge of mechanical design, robotics, control systems, and industrial automation, with a focus on machine learning and AI-driven process optimization.
Application
Hands-on experience in our well-equipped machine shop, with a focus on safety training. Application of python, AI, and computer-aided design using SolidWorks and AutoCAD by their first work term.
Collaboration
Participation in interdisciplinary design groups focused on developing effective problem solving, communication and teamwork skills.
