Profile

Dr. Katherine Morrison is a Clinical Pathologist and Co-Director of the Diagnostic Cytometry Service at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC). She earned her veterinary degree (BVM&S) from the University of Edinburgh before completing a small animal rotating internship at OVC. After several years in clinical practice, she returned to OVC to complete a residency in clinical pathology and achieved board certification with the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) in 2024.

She is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Pathobiology. Her clinical and academic work focuses on diagnostic cytology, hematology, and advanced cytometric techniques that support both patient care and translational research.

Research Interests

Dr. Morrison’s research focuses on hematolymphoid neoplasia in dogs and cats, with particular emphasis on canine lymphoma. Her work aims to improve diagnostic precision and prognostic assessment through minimally invasive and advanced molecular techniques.

Key Research Areas

Hematolymphoid Neoplasia

  • Investigation of lymphoma biology in dogs and cats
  • Refinement of classification systems and prognostic markers

Diagnostic Flow Cytometry

  • Application of spectral flow cytometry to define novel immunophenotypic profiles
  • Standardization of cytometric approaches to improve diagnostic precision

Molecular Diagnostic Assays

  • Development of microRNA (miRNA)–based molecular assays
  • Advancing minimally invasive tools for diagnosis and disease monitoring
