Aimee Copping

Aimee Copping is a musician, educator, researcher and author. She’s the creator of Blackball, an innovative electronic music teaching program for children and youth in underserved communities, currently in its eleventh year. In collaboration with prison music program Pros and Cons, Aimee established a dedicated music production space behind the walls of Grand Valley Institution for Women and produced two albums of original material written and performed by imprisoned people. Aimee volunteers with Girls’ Rock Camp Guelph and Silence Sounds, sits on the Guelph Youth Music Centre’s board of directors, and is Chair of the GYMC’s Programming Committee. Aimee’s a third-year PhD candidate in the Social Practice & Transformational Change program at the University of Guelph. In 2025, Aimee published her first scholarly article in Revista Aspas, the journal of the Graduate Program in Performing Arts at the University of São Paulo, and received a Canada Council for the Arts grant for her novel in progress “Promise.” In November of 2024, Aimee and SOFAM music students performed as part of a Sunday service at Dublin Street United Church. Performing and recording as Transstar, Aimee released her third album, Dowager, in December of 2025.
