The Master of Public Health (MPH) prepares students for careers addressing the present and future needs of public health in Ontario and across the world. Graduates will emerge as influential leaders at the local, national, and international level committed to improving quality of life by protecting and promoting community health, and by anticipating and preventing the spread of disease from both a policy and scientific perspective.

Program Overview and Admission Requirements
We offer an MPH and a Graduate Diploma in Public Health. The MPH is a 5-semester program combining a total of 12 courses with a 12-16 week practicum in a public health setting. The Graduate Diploma consists of four courses, including Applied Public Health Research.
Admission Requirements
The MPH program is designed for individuals holding an undergraduate degree in science or applied science who are seeking a career in public health. It is also designed for practicing health professionals, such as DVM/ BScN/MD/ND professional degrees, looking to enhance their expertise. An admission average of at least 77% (B+) is required in an undergraduate degree, or 70% (B-) in a professional degree. Students with an honours undergraduate degree without a biological focus may be required to complete the Principles of Disease (PATH*3610) distance education course prior to enrolling. A 4-year honours degree and two letters of reference are required. Strong interest in public health must be demonstrated through a one-page statement and a resume outlining past public health exposure.

Faculty and Partners
Guelph’s MPH program has one of the smallest class sizes among public health programs in Canada. This allows students to interact with and learn from world-class faculty, while developing strong relationships with classmates. As part of the Ontario Veterinary College, the MPH program is a leader in MPH education across Canada in the areas of environmental public health, infectious and zoonotic disease, public health policy, health promotion, health communication, program development, and epidemiology. The MPH enjoys a close geographical relationship with two Public Health Agency of Canada offices, and the main office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness. The program’s close relationship with the Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses offers research collaboration across campus.
Experiential Learning
Through the completion of one or two practicums in public health and related organizations, each lasting four months, students gain valuable work experience that prepares them for successful careers in public health.
