Does your unit have any REDUCTIONS in CUPE 3913 Work Assignments?

Article 4.01

The University shall notify the Labour/Management Committee of any planned significant decreases in the number of Bargaining Unit appointments and/or reduction in the total hours allotted to Bargaining Unit appointments and/or planned significant changes in the distribution of the Bargaining Unit appointments within a College, across Departments, or at the University of Guelph-Humber at least thirty (30) days prior to finalization of any decision. At the time of providing such notice, the University shall provide information that the University deems relevant. Upon receipt of such notice, the Labour/Management Committee shall convene a meeting, during the thirty (30) day period, with appropriate representatives of University Administration, to provide the Union the opportunity to provide input and/or make a presentation on the issue. It is understood that the purpose of this meeting is to discuss the implications for Bargaining Unit members and options to minimize negative impacts for Employees. Following consideration of this presentation, the University will finalize a decision and inform the Union.

Interpretation

The University has an obligation to notify the Union when there will be a reduction in TA and/or Sessional work assignments.   The Office of Faculty and Academic Staff Relations plays this role on behalf of academic units.

"Significant decreases" are interpreted as work assignment reductions of approximately 10% or greater from one semester or one academic year to the next (i.e., in W23 (over W22) or in 2021-2022 (over 2020-2021)).
