What if a TA or SL does not accept an Offer of Appointment before the deadline?

Unlike Job Postings, an extended Offer of Appointment does not automatically expire on the deadline date. This means that a TA or SL will continue to be able to View and Respond to the Pending Offer (in their Profile - > Work Assignment Dashboard) until the Offer Status is changed to Candidate Withdrawn or UofG Withdrawn.

As per Article 11.06(a) of the Collective Agreement, a minimum three (3) days must be given to a candidate to respond. It is recommended, where possible, that academic units offer a longer timeline. Academic units should also remind candidates that an offer is pending.

The Offer also states that as per Article 11.07(a), a TA or SL must respond to the Offer by 11:59pm on the Offer Response Deadline. Except in extenuating circumstances or where the offer is part of the Job Security Period or Right of First Refusal, failure to respond by the deadline is deemed as refusal of the work assignment.

Where the offer forms part of the Job Security Period or where a candidate holds Right of First Refusal, academic units should make reasonable efforts to ensure candidates have the opportunity to accept or decline an offer even after the posting has closed. Records should be kept of such efforts. In all other situations, academic units may wish to ensure there are no extenuating circumstances prior to extending an Offer to another candidate.
