Degree:
Minimum of a completed Master's degree (M.A.Sc., M.Sc., or M.Eng.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline, from a recognized university. Applicants whose Master's degree is not complete as of the application deadline will not be considered.
Required Expertise and Experience:
Demonstrated command of the full course content: lumped circuit abstraction, Ohm's and Kirchhoff's laws, nodal and mesh analysis, linearity and superposition, Thevenin and Norton equivalents, ideal operational-amplifier circuits, first- and second-order transient response including switched circuits, coupled inductors and transformers, and sinusoidal steady-state analysis using phasor methods. Applicants must map their prior teaching or professional experience to this topic list in the cover letter.
Demonstrated ability to design, supervise, and assess an undergraduate circuits laboratory using standard bench instrumentation (oscilloscope, function generator, digital multimeter, regulated DC supply). Applicants must document at least one semester of responsibility for an undergraduate electrical or electronics laboratory and name the instrumentation used.
Demonstrated ability to use circuit simulation software such as Multisim, LTspice, or PSpice in instruction and in laboratory assessment. Applicants must name the package or packages used and the instructional context in which they were used.
Demonstrated ability to teach and manage a large second-year engineering class and to coordinate multiple Graduate Teaching Assistants across parallel laboratory sections. Applicants must state the largest class enrolment they have taught as instructor of record and the number of Graduate Teaching Assistants and laboratory sections they have supervised.
Working knowledge of outcomes-based assessment and CEAB graduate attribute data collection. Applicants must describe a specific instance in which they collected, analysed, or reported graduate attribute data.
Proficiency with CourseLink (D2L) or an equivalent learning management system. Applicants must name the system and the functions they have administered.
Excellent spoken and written English, with demonstrated ability to communicate quantitative material clearly to first- and second-year students.
Availability to teach in person on the Guelph campus at the scheduled lecture and laboratory times. Applicants must confirm this availability explicitly in the cover letter.
Prior Teaching Experience:
Required. A minimum of one full semester as instructor of record for a university-level course in electric circuits, electrical fundamentals, or a closely related quantitative engineering subject, completed within the last five (5) years. Experience limited to graduate teaching assistantships will be considered only where the applicant held full responsibility for lecture delivery and assessment, and this must be documented in the application, naming the course, the semester and the supervising instructor.
