VETM*3430 – Clinical Medicine I - is the first course in the Clinical Medicine sequence. It introduces students to foundational clinical skills including: Animal handling and restraint, History taking and Physical examination of common domestic species. The course emphasizes early development of clinical reasoning and communication skills. It includes lectures, labs, and self-directed learning, and is integrated with other Phase 1 courses 1. *** VETM*3440 – Clinical Medicine II builds on the skills developed in Clinical Medicine I. Students continue to develop: Clinical examination techniques for specific organ systems; Clinical problem-solving using case material from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital; Verbal and written communication through case simulations and analyses. It includes lectures, clinically-oriented labs, review labs, and self-study materials. *** VETM*4870 – Clinical Medicine III is the final course in the sequence. It focuses on integrating knowledge and skills from earlier phases. It emphasizes: The Problem-Oriented Medical Approach (POMA), Diagnostic imaging, Application of clinical reasoning to more complex but common presenting complaints, Students refine their diagnostic and treatment planning skills across species (dogs, cats, horses, ruminants), preparing for clinical practice. The course includes lectures, labs, and OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations). *** The University of Guelph promotes a healthy campus. Required Qualifications
Degree: 
DVM
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level
Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
- Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) to practice veterinary medicine in Ontario. - Demonstrated clinical experience in companion and/or food animal medicine. - Experience teaching veterinary students in clinical or pre-clinical settings. - Strong communication and clinical reasoning skills. - Ability to work to deadlines, and evidence of strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree: 
DVM
Specific Preferred competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
- Clinical bovine practice experience is preferred. - Experience in teaching clinical skills for ruminant veterinary practice is an asset. - Board certification (or eligibility) in a relevant specialty (e.g., ACVIM, ACVS, ABVP). - Experience with Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) and clinical skills labs. - Familiarity with the Problem-Oriented Medical Approach (POMA). - Experience in curriculum development or integration of clinical content across phases. - Demonstrated commitment to student mentorship and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Days and Times Required: 
Clinical Medicine 1: 12 lab offerings; Clinical Medicine 2: 12 lab offerings; Clinical Medicine 3: 4 lab offerings; OSCE final examinations. Additional details to be discussed with the Department Chair.
Period of the Work Agreement (Start Date and End Date): 
September 2, 2025 to April 24, 2026
Wages (per semester, per full-load): 
minimum $8,838.51 (effective 2025/26)
