Travels in Cultural Landscapes

This course will investigate how the concepts of mobility and travel have shaped and influenced French and Francophone literary and cultural production. We will study thematically related films, examine historically significant artworks and artefacts, and read texts from a variety of genres, which could include travel writing, journals and correspondence, epic poetry, documentary non-fiction, and road novels, among others. We will explore topics such as gender, immigration, ecology and the environment, borders, landscapes, and shifting ideas of nationhood, belonging, and place in their relation to mobility and the circulation of people and ideas. *** The University of Guelph promotes a healthy campus.
