Other Course Description or Assignment Information: 
This course will introduce skills required to organize equine events, such as horse shows, clinics and conferences. Major topics include event planning, budgeting, promotions, sponsorship, managing event staff and volunteers, legacies and environmental impacts of events. Required activities outside of regularly scheduled class hours will be assigned. Students will assist in the planning and staging of an equine event. Other information: This course is an experiential learning course where students plan, organize and host a variety of equine-related events that could be held on or off campus and open to the general public. This involves time spent outside of scheduled lectures/labs, potentially on weekends or evenings.

Advanced planning of equine events to be held during the fall semester. Supervision of small student groups related to event planning. Setting up, attending and clean up of planned events.

Bachelors in related course content
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level
Coaching equestrian competitors, supervising volunteer staff, experience supervising and grading group assignments
Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Intimate knowledge of the equine industry. Background as a competitor in equestrian sports or attending equestrian competitions as groom or volunteer. Experience organizing events. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required for interaction with industry professionals. Excellent skills in written and oral English.
Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in equine science or management and/or BBRM-EQM graduate
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level.
Specific Preferred competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Experience as an organizer of equine events including marketing, sponsorship, event attendee experience and budgeting. Special knowledge of the course material (i.e. have taken EQN*2080 or similar course). Personal network of industry professionals to engage in event planning. Thorough understanding of university branding guidelines. Positive teaching evaluations from students.
