This course introduces the application of human language and linguistics in the fields of technology and computers. Students will take survey of real-world applications where computers deal with language, its representation and processing. Students will become familiar with elementary concepts in how linguistics and technology intersect, how linguistics informs technology. We will review some key elements of linguistics such as writing systems. phonetics, syntax, semantics, language acquisition, corpus linguistics, and translation as we examine their application to computers.
