Course Number:
AHSS*1400 (General Elective)
Course Name:
Women in Contemporary Canada
Other Course Description or Assignment Information:
- Through a historical lens, this course introduces some of the central issues for women in Canada today. We will look at the history of women’s movements and changes in public policy, at triumphs and continuing challenges, from the end of World War II to now. The course examines the shifts in gender roles and expectations, and how these shifts have affected the economy and culture. We will also consider topics such as sexuality, family, gendered violence, and activism. As Canada has become home to landed immigrants, but is founded on Indigenous territories that predate European arrival, there will be a special focus on diverse populations: immigrant and Indigenous. - To view course outlines from previous offerings of this course, please visit: https://www.guelphhumber.ca/academic-services/course-outlines.
