Other Course Description or Assignment Information: 
This course introduces theoretical and practical perspectives on the co-occurrence of mental health challenges and substance addiction. Students will explore mental health and drug/alcohol usage policy and law, learn about mental health and substance abuse assessment, diagnosis, and treatment approaches, develop an awareness of relevant pharmacological issues and the effects of misusing certain stimulants and drugs, and gain an understanding of the nature of concurrent disorders with various populations. - To view course outlines from previous offerings of this course, please visit: https://www.guelphhumber.ca/academic-services/course-outlines

Prior Teaching Experience: 
Many years of successful teaching related to contents of the course.
Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Related clinical experience in mental health and addictions or related discipline.

PhD related to field
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level.

Demonstrated teaching excellence (e.g. course evaluations, reference letters, student feedback, etc.)
Research Experience: 
Quality and or Recent Research activity in areas relevant to the course demonstrating knowledge of current developments in course content.
Specific Preferred competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Preference will be given to a candidate with academic experience in theoretical approaches and concepts in the study mental health and addictions; Practical experience in administrative, supervising and/or clinical work in mental health and addictions.

Section DE01 & DE02: This is a distance education course offering. As such, significant online monitoring, supervision and feedback related to student learning activities is required.
