This course examines the roles and responsibilities of administrators in programs for children with emphasis on the development of appropriate policies and procedures; management of human and financial resources; and internal and external communication within the context of multidisciplinary settings. Attention will be given to quality assurance, professional ethics and continuing professional development.

Other Duties Described: 
(1) Update and edit the course outline as required by the Office of Open Learning and Educational Support (OpenEd). Any significant changes to an outline, including but not limited to a change in textbook or assessment strategies, must be approved by the Department Chair. The outline must be submitted to the Office of OpenEd by their required date (TBD) and it must also be submitted to the Department Chair at least one week before the start of classes. (2) Preparation and delivery of the course material in an organized and effective manner. (3) Creation and maintenance of the Courselink site, including readings (imported from the ARES Course Reserves System) and discussion board monitoring where appropriate. (4) Effective and professional communication. (5) Meet with GTAs prior to or within the first week of classes to discuss their responsibilities and complete the GTA Assignment of Work Agreements. (6) Supervise and mentor GTAs in accordance with the Collective Agreement, CUPE 3913, Unit 1. (7) Monitor and support GTAs to facilitate accurate, consistent and timely grading within a 2 week period. The use of a grading rubric is required. (8) Online office hours and student email consultation as required including daily online participation to monitor discussion boards and respond to student questions and concerns. (9) Accurate, consistent and timely grading within a 2 week period. The use of a grading rubric is required. (10) Provide meaningful and constructive feedback giving students a realistic idea of their performance prior to the 40th class day. (11) Plan to offer a final exam, if applicable, in modified format through CourseLink. (12) Timely and accurate submission of final grades as per departmental deadline. (13) Facilitate student course evaluations. (14) Invigilate final exam. (15) Submit deferred exam with grading rubric to the department. (16) Complete Accessible Service Provision, Making Education Accessible and Environmental Health and Safety online courses, if not previously completed. (17) Following the end of the semester, as per Article 14.10(a) in the CUPE 3913 Unit 2 Collective Agreement, you may also be requested to perform work as outlined therein, including deferrals. Reimbursement will be paid in accordance with Schedule ‘B’ of the Collective Agreement upon submission of the extra hours and dates worked to the Department Chair provided the Department Chair and Sessional previously agreed to the specific work/hours/dates.

Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
APPLICANTS MUST INCLUDE A COVER LETTER WITH A DETAILED EXPLANATION OF EACH REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATION IN ADDITION TO THEIR CV. You are required to demonstrate: (1) Competence in teaching at the post-secondary level. This can be done through the submission of materials such as reference letter(s) from supervisor(s), direct feedback from students and teaching dossiers. (2) Membership in the College of Early Childhood Educators with ECE Designation. (3) Recent engagement with the administration of programs for children as evidenced by active research or professional engagement in the field. (4) Strong (a) written (b) verbal and (c) online communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree: 
PhD in progress related to field
Specific Preferred competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
(1) Previous successful teaching of large Distance Education classes, including the use of online resources. (2)Experience in working with the Office of Open Learning and Educational Support on Distance Education course updates.
