This is an introductory course in astronomy, designed for science students, covering the solar system, the sun, stellar and galactic structure. The course offers a broad survey of contemporary astronomy, providing a perspective of our place in the physical universe. Topics may include: explanation of the solar system, life in the universe, and stellar evolution. Students are encouraged to suggest and participate in discussion on items of special interest.

Other Duties Described: 
This course can be taken by registered students and also through OpenEd. Course assessments involve setup and content creation, both of which must be done to meet OpenEd timelines, including: - two midterms and a final exam must be prepared in advance, according to timelines of OpenEd course offerings. - practical exercises, which involve some coordination with Courselink technical support Orientation-Training will occur throughout the semester with consultation available for content preparation. This position has no lecture component. Instead, regular and frequent monitoring of discussion forums and email is required for facilitation of student learning.

Masters related to field
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level
Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Excellent communication skills, especially in facilitating student learning via asynchronous communication.

Successful teaching related to field at college or university level.
Many years of successful teaching related to contents of the course.
Specific Preferred competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Experience teaching distance-education, or virtual courses which include frequent, asynchronous communications with students. Familiarity with Courselink and content creation within this learning management system.
