In this course, students will be introduced to grief and loss experiences in childhood and examine how early childhood professionals can work with children through the grief process. Students will be encouraged to look at their own personal experiences with loss and grief in order to reflect on the significance of loss in our lives and how this can impact children. Special focus on grief theory and how children progress through the stages of grief with any loss in life. A degree related to ECS, Children's Mental Health or Social Work (with a focus on children).
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level

Work experience related to field; Knowledge and/or expertise in the content of the course (through research, education or professional experience); Evidence of successful online course development, teaching an online course or delivering training/workshops online.

Specific Preferred competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Candidates should provide in their application evidence of prior teaching experience and teaching success/excellence related to course content, which may include a dossier, teaching philosophy, examples of teaching innovations, course developments, evaluations of previously taught courses (e.g., peer evaluations and/or student feedback), reference letters, and any other relevant information they wish to have evaluated by the selection committee (some documents on file in the department or program, such as UofGH Student Feedback Questionnaires of courses taught on UofG contracts, may also be used). Experience working with children and families coping with grief, loss and trauma. Demonstrated strong familiarity with current research directly related to the content of the course. Evidence of fostering a supportive learning environment/community, such as responsiveness, engagement and adaptability, including creating a safe space for students to voice their questions/concerns.

Section DE03: This is a distance education course offering. As such, significant online monitoring, supervision and feedback related to student learning activities is required.
