This course enables students to extend their knowledge and professional skills in a second supervised placement working with children in a health, education or social service agency. The practicum and seminar provides students with additional opportunities to integrate theoretical knowledge with practice experiences. Students are expected to assume additional responsibilities related to program design and implementation and in their supervised work with individuals and/or groups.

Other Duties Described: 
This posting is for Fall 2025 course offerings where BASc students participate in an appropriate field experience with children 0-12 years (16 hours/week) to be assigned by the department, as well as participate in a weekly seminar. Collaboration with the BASc Practicum Coordinator is a significant component of this teaching role, which also includes: (A) Supervision of Students in Field Placement and meeting with both the students and agency field supervising teachers/supervisors. Work with students and agency field supervising teachers on an as-needed basis around issues of concern to develop strategies addressing concerns. Liaise in an on-going manner with agencies (email and phone). Complete 15 minute midterm meetings with all students to review midterm evaluations from field placement supervisors and progress towards professional learning goals. Collaborate with the BASc Practicum Coordinator during the course of study when situations arise in which a student can no longer attend the current placement site.  (B) Weekly Instruction (Academic and Placement Curriculum): Prepare and submit course outlines. Prepare and implement curriculum for weekly seminar classes, adhering to the respective course outline and Practicum Committee course expectations. Facilitate students' completion of evaluation strategies. Review and grade student submissions of the evaluation components as indicated in respective course outlines. Meet with students during office hours on a scheduled or impromptu basis.  Additional responsibilities commensurate with teaching in FRAN: (1) Provide the Department Chair with an updated course outline by one week before the start of classes. Any significant changes to an outline, including but not limited to a change in textbook or assessment strategies, must be approved by the Department Chair. (2) Course should be designed and delivered within an inclusive and accessible learning environment consistent with the principles of Universal Instructional Design (see: https://opened.uoguelph.ca/student-resources/Universal-Instructional-Design). (3) Preparation and delivery of the course material in an organized and effective manner. (4) Creation and maintenance of CourseLink site, including readings (imported from the ARES Course Reserves System) and discussion board monitoring where appropriate. (5) Effective and professional communication. (6) Meet with GTA(s) prior to or within the first week of classes to discuss their responsibilities and complete the GTA Assignment of Work Agreements. (7) Supervise and mentor GTA(s) in accordance with the Collective Agreement, CUPE 3913, Unit 1. (8) Monitor and support GTA(s) to facilitate accurate, consistent, and timely grading within a 2-week period. The use of a grading rubric is recommended. (9) Provide office hours and prompt student email consultation, including student emails and concerns, as required. (10) Accurate, consistent, and timely grading within a 2-week period. (11) Provide meaningful and constructive feedback, at minimum 20% of the final course grade, giving students a realistic idea of their performance prior to the 40th class day. (12) Submission of a final and deferred exam, if applicable, to Department ahead of the exam period. (13) Invigilate final exam if there is a final exam. Must be available for the entirety of the final exam period. (14) Timely and accurate submission of final grades as per departmental deadline. (15) Health and Safety online courses, if not previously completed. (16) Following the end of the semester, as per Article 14.10(a) in the CUPE 3913 Unit 2 Collective Agreement, you may also be requested to perform work as outlined therein, including deferrals. Reimbursement will be paid in accordance with Schedule ‘B’ of the Collective Agreement upon submission of the extra hours and dates worked to the Department Chair provided the Department Chair and Sessional previously agreed to the specific work/hours/dates.

Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level

Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
APPLICANTS MUST INCLUDE A COVER LETTER WITH A DETAILED EXPLANATION OF EACH REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATION IN ADDITION TO THEIR CV. You are required to demonstrate: (1) Competence in teaching at the post-secondary level. This can be done through the submission of materials such as a reference letter(s) from supervisor(s), direct feedback from students and teaching dossiers. (2) Background, knowledge & experience in the field of practicum instruction and supervision of CYF students or related student population. (3) Strong (a) written (b) verbal and (c) online communication skills. (4) RECE designation, registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.
