This course provides a comprehensive exploration of contemporary leadership theories and practices through an examination of case-studies from the rise and fall of the Hellenistic states from the death of Alexander the Great until the Roman conquest. Through the study of influential figures and a variety of ancient source material and evidence, students will develop a nuanced understanding of the ancient Greek and Roman models of leadership and apply this knowledge to contemporary organizational contexts.

Degree: 
Masters related to field
M.A. related to field (Latin and Ancient Greek Literature).
Prior Teaching Experience: 
No teaching experience required
Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
M.A. related to field (Ancient History, Classics, Leadership Studies, or a closely related discipline) / Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: Demonstrated familiarity with ancient Greek and Roman history, with emphasis on the Hellenistic period. Familiarity with primary/ancient source material and historical interpretation. Ability to engage students in critical analysis of Hellenistic history and their application to contemporary contexts and leadership models.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree: 
PhD related to field
Ph.D. related to field (Latin and Ancient Greek Literature).
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level.
Experience and familiarity with the technology required to stage effective remote learning experiences.
Research Experience: 
Quality and or Recent Research activity in related field demonstrating knowledge of current developments in course content.
Specific Preferred competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Ph.D. related to field (Ancient History, Classics, Leadership Studies, or a closely related discipline). Specific Preferred competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: Research and publications related to Hellenistic history, ancient leadership, or comparative historical-political studies. Familiarity with contemporary leadership theory and organizational behaviour. Experience analysing ancient evidence (texts, inscriptions, material culture) with relevance to political or strategic leadership. Strong record of engaging students in comparative or applied contexts (e.g., ancient-modern leadership paradigms). Ability to integrate ancient case studies into modern frameworks of organisational leadership or decision-making. Experience teaching thematically structured or interdisciplinary courses. Lectures in person = Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 4:30pm (1hr)

minimum $8,838.51 (effective 2025/26)
