This course examines the anatomical, physiological and biochemical traits that have evolved in plants emphasizing the mechanisms of energy capture, nutrient concentration, compartmentalization and signal transduction that allow plants to dominate the landscape. Using examples from crop and horticultural plants the course will emphasize how evolutionary adaptations and life strategies of plants are utilized in managed systems to optimize the usefulness of plants to humans in field and controlled environment production systems. Case studies and labs will emphasize skills needed to measure physiological responses and problem solve.

Other Duties Described: 
Will be expected to manage course material and communications via CourseLink and emails as required. Maintain office hours (either in person or remotely) as need be. Incumbent must be available for final exam invigilation as well as deferred exams/marking/grading as needed beyond the appointment end date. In case of the latter, the Sessional will be compensated in accordance with the Schedule "B" rate.

Degree: 
PhD in progress related to field
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level
Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Familiarity with typical plant physiological measurement techniques. Possess a strong aptitude in communicating with students (both written and verbal) in a class setting.
