This course will help students to develop basic university writing and case documentation skills for successful application in their Social Services & Well-Being Studies (SSWS) curriculum coursework as well as after graduation. The course introduces students to different voices of writing, along with a solid foundation in grammar. Specific to the social services field, the course provides a unique focus on discipline-relevant competencies, including proper APA usage, case note and grant proposal writing, working within groups, and making effective oral presentations. Candidates should provide in their application evidence of prior teaching experience and teaching success/excellence related to course content, which may include a dossier, teaching philosophy, examples of teaching innovations, course developments, evaluations of previously taught courses (e.g., peer evaluations and/or student feedback), reference letters, and any other relevant information they wish to have evaluated by the selection committee (some documents on file in the department or program, such as UofGH Student Feedback Questionnaires of courses taught on UofG contracts, may also be used). Professional experience in social services or community work, with demonstrated ability to teach applied writing, documentation, and presentation skills tailored to the field. Research background in writing pedagogy or communication practices within social services, with a focus on applied writing, documentation, and presentation skills relevant to community-based contexts.
