Other Course Description or Assignment Information:
- This course examines how immigrant communities construct collective memory and negotiate public narratives through cultural practice, commemoration, and institutional life, using Greek Canadians as the primary case study. Students analyze how family histories, religious and cultural traditions, media, and community organizations shape belonging across generations and determine which histories are preserved or marginalized. Comparative examples from other diasporic Greek communities deepen the analysis of racialization, identity, and public memory across national contexts. Through critical engagement with diverse sources, the course emphasizes how public narratives are produced and contested. - To view course outlines from previous offerings of this course (if available), please visit: https://www.guelphhumber.ca/academic-services/course-outlines - Classes held on University of Guelph-Humber campus (Toronto).
