The following Academic Misconduct cases are used to demonstrate the type of situations that arise in the School and the resulting penalties.
Case 1
15 students were charged with Academic Misconduct for allegedly copying software for an assignment in a third year course. Some students had direct knowledge of the unauthorized collaboration. In the end, 14 students received a grade of zero for the assignment, while one student received an official warning. All students were warned that subsequent offences would be dealt with more severely.
Case 2
A student was charged with Academic Misconduct for copying various solutions to a mid-term from students seating in the immediate vicinity. The student was found guilty and given a zero for the examination.
Case 3
Students were caught passing information back and forth during the final exam. Upon review of the material, it was determined that there were similarities in their solution for a several questions. Specifically, the wrong approaches were used on both examination papers. Following a thorough investigation, both students were given zero for the course.
