We believe all qualified individuals should be able to attend university regardless of their financial status. Our innovative financial aid programs are specifically geared to ensuring an accessible, top-quality education for all students. From available scholarships in Canada to estimated expenses for international students and opportunities to make money while you are at the University of Guelph, here's how we help you fund your education.
In the 2022-23 school year, 7,637 students received $27.1 million CAD in awards, including $10.2 million CAD in need-based awards!

- International Entrance Scholarships: $18,500 - $21,500 CAD
Awarded on a competitive basis to new students entering their first semester in the fall. Students must have a complete admission file by the final document deadline of March 15, 2024, to be considered. No application is required. Eligible students will be notified through their offer of admission.
- The Dr. Franco J. Vaccarino President’s Scholarship: $42,500 CAD
Recognizes students of academic distinction who have made significant contributions to their school and their community and demonstrates the potential to become leaders in society. This award also includes guaranteed on-campus residence, and guaranteed first-choice room preference in first year. Applications are due January 25, 2024.
- International Transfer Scholarship: $10,000 CAD
International fee-paying transfer students admitted to an undergraduate degree program for summer 2024 or fall 2024 are eligible to receive a one-time $10,000 CAD scholarship. No application is required.
- Quinn Memorial Scholarship: $2,000 CAD
Selection will be based on academic performance, letters of reference, and an assessment of the admission application package. No application is required.
- Hardy International Student Scholarship: $2,000 CAD
Selection is based on the assessment of the student's admission application and preference is given in the following order: students from Haiti; students from Africa; then any other international student. No application is required.
- Fatemeh Haghighi International Scholarship: $1,000 CAD
Selection will be based on academic performance and an assessment of the admission application package. No application is required.
- Jane Wight T&T Scholarship: $1,000 CAD
Selection will be based on academic performance through an assessment of the admission application package, and a review of the statement of interest from the student or letter of recommendation from the high school. Apply by letter by April 15, 2024.
- OAC 1973 International Entrance Scholarship: $1,000 CAD
Selection will be based on academic performance through an assessment of the admission application package, and review of the statement of interest from the student or letter of recommendation from the high school. Apply by letter by April 15, 2024.
- International In-Course Scholarships and Bursaries
In-course scholarships are designed to reward academic excellence and outstanding achievements of current students. In 2022, the University of Guelph awarded more than $6.26 million in upper-year scholarships.
Bursaries are intended to assist international students who are experiencing an unforeseen and/or unexpected financial situation or emergency. Academic achievement is not a consideration when awarding bursaries.
Students must complete one full year of studies at U of G to be considered for in-course scholarships and bursaries.
There are many opportunities to make money while you are at the University of Guelph. Here are some options:
- Co-operative Education: You will work full-time during your co-op work terms and can make $500 – $2,500 CAD per week depending on your job!
- Part-time Jobs: More than 4,000 on-campus jobs are available on a competitive basis. Work in one of the many campus eateries, in the athletics centre, or any of the retail locations on campus. There are many jobs available throughout the city, too. Guelph is big enough to offer lots of opportunities and small enough to get around easily! We know that part-time work is an important part of subsidizing the cost of your education.
- Work Study Program: Our Work Study program creates part-time employment on campus for hundreds of students who have financial need. International students may apply for Work Study funding in their 2nd year of university.

*Tuition is based on the 2024-25 academic year. Other fees from 2023-24 are subject to change. Students should also factor in travel costs, equipment fees, and personal living expenses. Housing and food costs will vary depending on lifestyle.
Your Fees Guarantee: U of G guarantees that future tuition increases will not exceed 5% in all subsequent years.
Co-op students pay an additional $330 CAD per semester for academic and work semesters.
Tuition Deposit: To show your commitment to the University of Guelph we require a non-refundable tuition deposit of $1,000 CAD. Please consult the preferred payment methods for paying your deposit.
**University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP): UHIP is the general health coverage for medical services such as visiting the doctor, visiting or staying in the hospital, medication while hospitalized, surgery, laboratory tests, e-rays, other diagnostic tests and other hospital services.
***Meal plans are mandatory in residence except for those living in East Residence and the East Village Townhouses.
To get a Study Permit/Visa, Immigration Canada will require that you have sufficient funds to pay for one full year of tuition fees and living expenses. Payment plans – sometimes you encounter unexpected challenges. Talk to a financial counsellor about arranging a payment plan. When you arrive in Guelph, you can call 519-824-4120 x58715 to schedule an appointment.
Funding Your Education - Indigenous Students from USA
Students from the United States who self-identify as Indigenous on their application will be eligible to pay domestic tuition fees rather than international fees. A tribal enrollment or registration card must be presented to qualify. Contact the International Student Advisor at 519-824-4120 Ext. 53954 for more information.
