The University of Guelph has been ranked as one of the top universities in the world for agricultural science and food science, according to the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.
U of G placed first in Canada and 18th globally in food science and technology, reflecting its internationally recognized research strengths in food safety, food chemistry and food innovation.
In the agricultural sciences subject, U of G ranked second in Canada and 43rd globally. U of G also ranked #1 in Canada for both world class output and high-quality research in agricultural sciences.
Both the food science and agricultural science programs are part of the Ontario Agricultural College.
“OAC’s rankings results speak to our world-class faculty who are conducting globally relevant research every day, and to our alumni who are improving agri-food systems around the world through their work,” says John Cranfield, dean of OAC.
These rankings place U of G among a select group of Canadian institutions with multiple subjects in the top 50 worldwide.
This ranking solidifies OAC’s global strength in food and agricultural science research and academics. OAC’s new course-based Master of Sustainable Agriculture attracts students from around the world to train as future sustainable agricultural leaders while its food science program provides training for food innovators and safety leaders through undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and professional programs and certificates.
The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects evaluates institutions based on ten core indicators organized under five categories, including world-class faculty, research output, quality and impact as well as international collaborations.
