The University of Guelph has achieved a major milestone in the 2026 QS Subject Rankings, with its agriculture and forestry programs now ranked #1 in Canada (tied with UBC) and 14th in the world. This is the first time U of G has placed in the global top 15.

This recognition reflects one of U of G’s strongest performances to date, with the University now ranked in 15 subject areas globally, up from 12 last year.

For the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC), the ranking underscores its leadership in advancing research, teaching and real-world impact across the agri-food sector.

“This recognition speaks to the incredible work of our faculty, staff, students and alumni,” says John Cranfield, dean of the Ontario Agricultural College. “It highlights not only the strength of our research and teaching, but also the real-world impact we’re making across the agri-food sector here in Canada and around the world.”

In environmental sciences, U of G ranked seventh in Canada and among the top 200 globally.

U of G also ranks 18th in the world (#1 in Canada) for food science and technology (Shanghai Rankings) and 2nd in Canada for plant and animal Sciences (US News).
