What is an "Available NotPublic” Posting?

There are a number of situations in which academic units can appoint an individual without a competition and without posting the assignment publicly. These situations include:

For Unit 1 (TAs/GSA-1)

  • An unanticipated work assignment: 11.02(b)(2)
  • When an employee withdraws from an assignment: 11.02(b)(1)
  • When an assignment becomes available after the 1st day of classes as a result of illness or resignation: 11.02(b)(3)
  • When an assignment was offered to an employee who then declined:11.02(b)(4)
  • When there were no applicants or no suitable applicants: 11.02(c)

For Unit 2 (SLs)

  • An unanticipated work assignment: 11.02(b)(2)
  • When an employee withdraws from this assignment: 11.02(b)(1)
  • When an assignment becomes after the 1st day of classes as a result of illness or resignation: 11.02(a)(3)
  • When an assignment was offered to an employee who then declined: 11.02(b)(4)
  • When an assignment is offered to a PhD student as indicated in their Offer of Admission Letter (the course cannot carry the RoFR): 11.02(b)(5)
  • When there were no applicants or no suitable applicants: 11.02(c)

At the same time, the hiring system requires us to create a posting in order for

(1) the employee to ‘apply’,

(2) for us to subsequently generate an offer of appointment and

(3) for the individual to earn a SP and, for SLs the RoFR for the assignment.

These postings are created as “not-public” and will never be seen by the general public or CUPE. These postings are created only when academic units would like to extend an offer to an individual when not required to post. See: How do I extend an Offer to a Work Assignment of a "NotPublic" Posting?

It is important to include any additional information, including an explanation, in the 'posting admin memo'.

Although CUPE does not see Non-Public postings, we do provide a report on the number of such unanticipated work assignments.
