Paris Semester, Winter 2019

Study and live in the City of Lights in Winter 2019

The Paris Semester provides a group of up to 25 Guelph students with an opportunity to live and study in one of the great cities of the world. Students live in a residence, are supported by a Semester Abroad Coordinator, and take courses that use Paris as their classroom. The information below will provide you with an overview of the program.

Paris Semester Coordinator

The Semester Abroad Coordinator, a University of Guelph faculty member, supervises all academic activities, organizes group activities and field trips and provides information and support to students prior to departure and during their time in France.

The coordinator for the Winter 2019 semester is Frederique Arroyas, from the School of Langues and Literatures.

Accommodations on the Paris Semester (tentative)

Accommodations for Guelph Students are at La Maison des etudiants canadiens du Canada (MEC)   located at La Cite Internationale Universitaire (Paris 14e arrondiseement) from January to April 2019.

The Cite Internationale Universitaire of Paris is located in a 34 hectares wooded park, in the south of Paris (14e arrondissement). It's a very unique site. The Cite was founded in 1925, thanks to the generosity of industrialists and foreign foundations. For eighty years, the Cite Internationale Universitaire of Paris is a private foundation, entirely dedicated to the reception of high-level mobile students, researchers and artists, at the service of cultural exchange and dialogue. The buildings built between 1923 and 1969 testify to a great diversity: regional and classical references, international modern architecture and experimental research.

The Cite provides several facilities open to the academic community and also to the public: restaurants, theater, libraries, sport, etc. The Cite is divided into 38 residences and its enclosed area is inhabited by near 5 600 students and researchers. The wooded park for the residents counts nearly four hundred different plants.

La Maison des Etudiants Canadiens is newly renovated and contains numerous amenities, such as computer room with a kitchen on each floor for meal preparation, computer work stations, a communal TV and recreation room, a small library, internet connection in each room, wireless access in common areas, washers and driers, vending machines, etc.

Each student will share a double room with another participant. Efforts will be made to match compatible roommates.

The MEC has four fully equipped kitchens (stove, oven, microwave, etc) where residents can prepare their meals.

Group Events and Field Trips

Group activities are held throughout the semester in Paris and provide an opportunity for students to get to know each other and Paris.

In previous Paris Semesters, a 3 day field trip was organized to the Loire Valley, a one day field trip was organized to the Pas-de-Calais and included a visit to Vimy Ridge and Arras.

Field trips for the Winter 2019 semester will be similar, and organized by the Paris Semester Coordinator.
