Jr. Instructor (High School)

Summary
We are looking for passionate and driven Jr. Instructors to champion the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) to youth through hands-on, impactful programming. In this role, you will play a key role in the success of Creative Encounter’s summer programs by working alongside our STEM Instructor team to facilitate dynamic and engaging summer camps. Your leadership will be key to delivering high-quality experiences that meet our objectives and inspire the next generation of innovators. A successful summer will be defined by your ability to deliver exceptional STEM programming and support the growth of our critical outreach initiatives. For Summer 2026, we will be hiring 4 Jr. Instructors.
Note: Our summer programming will be running in-person at the University of Guelph’s main campus.
Hours of Work (Tentative) and Compensation
- July 6 - August 28, 2026
- There will be mandatory training taking place in late June, which will be compensated
- Monday - Friday: scheduled from 8:30 AM–4:30 PM, totalling 35-40 hours/week
- During weeks of Co-Instructing, will be paid for 40 hours/week (paid lunch)
- During non-Instructing weeks, will be paid for 35 hours/week (unpaid lunch)
- Wage: $17.75/hour
Note:
- Jr. Instructors may need to arrive for 8:00 AM on Monday’s to assist with camp setup
- Jr. Instructors may need to stay until ~5:00 PM on Thursday’s for weekly team debriefs.
- During Co-Instructing weeks, there will be a 1-hour paid lunch break, as Jr. Instructors will still be engaging with campers during lunch.
- As a casual employee with the University of Guelph there are no vacation days for the duration of employment.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Experience working with youth, particularly those from historically underrepresented communities within STEM and education
- Experience in a camp and/or educational setting is considered an asset
- Excellent verbal communication
- Experience working as part of a team
- Familiarity with coding, LEGO robotics, and other educational tech is considered an asset, but not a requirement
Required Documents
First Aid/CPR-C: All Creative Encounters staff are required to be trained in Standard First Aid and CPR-C. Creative Encounters will arrange a training date and cover the cost of First Aid/CPR training for those who do not have a valid certification. Any First Aid training outside of the scheduled time is the financial responsibility of the staff member.
Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC): any Jr. Instructors aged 18 or older must obtain a valid VSC and submit proof of it by the first day of employment. Any costs associated with obtaining a VSC is the responsibility of the staff member.
Lived Experience
A primary focus of Creative Encounters programming is to reach equity deserving groups who have historically been underrepresented in STEM fields; these equity deserving groups include Black Youth, Indigenous Youth, Girls and Non-binary Youth, Persons with Disabilities, Racialized Communities and Youth facing socioeconomic disadvantages. Candidates with lived experience in one or more of these communities are encouraged to apply for the position.
