Position Description:

The Department of Political Science at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level.

The Department of Political Science at the University of Guelph seeks an applicant with teaching and research interests in Canadian Law and Politics for a tenure-track probationary appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, subject to budgetary approval.

Within the broad field of Canadian politics, the Department will consider scholars with teaching and research interests in the areas of justice, law and politics, and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). The Department welcomes applications from scholars who use a variety of epistemological, theoretical and methodological approaches.

The successful candidate will be key in advancing teaching in the highly successful Justice and Legal Studies (JLS) program within Political Science. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses within JLS including JLS*1000 Introduction to Justice & Law, POLS*2350 Law from a Political Science Perspective and POLS*3130 Law, Politics and the Judicial Process. The teaching load is three courses per semester (Fall and Winter).

In addition to teaching these and other related courses, the successful candidate will contribute to other dimensions of the Political Science program, such as the undergraduate program in Criminal Justice and Public Policy (CJPP), the graduate MA program in Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy (CCJP) and MA and PhD programs in Political Science.

The successful candidate will also support the administration of JLS including the development of a professional graduate program.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or be ABD in Political Science or a related discipline with demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching and excellent research, commensurate with experience.
