Alumni, Supporters and Friends

The Lang School of Business and Economics is committed to developing leaders who will use business as a force for good. There are many ways for you to give back and help inspire future leaders for a sustainable world.

We believe that ethical and collaborative business leaders are unquestionably the future and invite you to be a catalyst for change with us to support our initiatives.

Giving a gift of a scholarship or bursary is a meaningful way to impact a student’s life. Scholarships help provide opportunities for students, allowing them to focus their efforts on academics and professional development opportunities

  • A gift of at least $1,000 per year for a commitment of 5 years can establish a new award for an undergraduate student, and a gift of $5,000 per year for a commitment of five years can begin a new award for a graduate student.
  • A pledged gift of $30,000 committed over 5 years can establish an endowed undergraduate award that disburses $1,000 per year in perpetuity, and $150,000 committed over 5 years can establish an endowed graduate award that disburses $5,000 per year in perpetuity
  • You can give to an area that is near to your heart – whether Lang-wide or specific to a program or course. You can structure your award as an entrance or in-course, for co-op students, etc. Your award could include financial need and/or merit criteria, depending on the structure of the award.

Our Alumni Advancement team will guide you through the process of selecting award eligibility and criteria, naming and donating. Contact Alex Madott, Alumni Advancement Manager (amadott@uoguelph.ca).

  • Lang Highest Priority: Your donation can help meet the most critical needs at Lang, at the direction of the Dean.
  • Lang School of Business and Economics Student Assistance: Direct your gift to students in need by giving to this fund, which supports a variety of initiatives to alleviate financial hardships for Lang students.
  • Lang Case Study Competition Program: Your donation enhances Lang education for all students by supporting professional development activities through funding for industry-related competitions and conferences.
  • Class Project or Peer Giving: Rally colleagues from your cohort or a group of friends to join in on a group giving project. You can jointly give to an area you are passionate about, such as starting a scholarship or giving to a bench in the Lang Plaza. We can help you launch a philanthropic giving campaign and support you in setting up this special initiative.
  • Support Students Organizations through Sponsorship: If you’re looking for great marketing value, Lang has a number of student organizations to support!

To give to any of these opportunities, reach out to Alex Madott, Alumni Advancement Manager (amadott@uoguelph.ca).

A few Alumni volunteer options:

• Join Ten Thousand Coffees to give/receive networking and mentorship support: This is a virtual platform that helps our grads and students connect for networking and mentorship. When setting up your online profile, you choose your goals and interests - this could include connecting with students and/or fellow grads. This is used to match you with one person per month - from there, the two of you can choose to connect or not, depending on availability. You can also personally search and network with other graduates through this platform as well.

For more information and to join the U of G business cafe platform, click here.

• Put your name forward for possible inclusion as a Guest Speaker: Faculty from time to time are looking for a graduate who can come in as an industry professional to share their expertise and advice with students. Share with us a bit about your career journey and areas of interest/expertise. Some industry professionals may be featured to students in student clubs, on guest panels, or at special student events run by our Lang Business Career Development Centre.

• Volunteer to help promote alumni events in your network and with peers: Talk to us and we can connect you with opportunities upcoming and best suited to your major

• Volunteer to connect us to your networks (individual or corporate) to our Alumni Affairs Advancement team at Lang: You may know an individual or company, perhaps even yours, who would be interested in supporting students financially, sponsoring an event, hiring our co-op students or employing our grads. Let’s chat about these opportunities.

• Volunteer in person and/or virtually during Alumni Week 2024: Engage with fellow U of G alumni and strengthen our Gryphon Community. Ask us for more details.

Do you have any area of passion that you are interested in volunteering at not listed? There’s so many other opportunities available at U of G, let us know!

As part of the transformational $21-million gift from Stu and Kim Lang to name the U of G's business school, the 3,400-square-metre plaza at Macdonald Hall features an inspiring water fountain, nature-inspired fire pit, plenty of green space and lots of outdoor seating. This space officially opened on September 15th, 2021 and has been utilized by Lang students to host events, enjoy some fresh air between classes and for our faculty and staff to host meetings. With COVID-19 restrictions currently in place, Lang Plaza can hold up to 100 people. If you're looking for a smaller place to gather over coffee or tea, the fire pit is available as an alternative space.
