Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming (GCUOF)

U of G's On-Campus Organic Farm

The Guelph Urban Organic Farm (GCUOF) is a one-hectare learning and research facility established by the Ontario Agricultural College within the Department of Plant Agriculture.

The GCUOF trains students through hand on experiential learning through the practices and principles of organic agriculture. Students grow food that is sold to our partners on campus, at our sliding scale market, and donated to the CSA Food Bank.

Students learn to grow food that goes onto the plates of their fellow students, which helps reduce food insecurity of their classmates.

Growing food in the heart of campus.

Students from across disciplines come to the farm to learn about sustainable urban food production, heritage seed production, permaculture, food security, fair trade and more. The GCUOF provides a flexible, real-world field site for research and learning that addresses some of today’s most pressing environmental and agri-food challenges.

We're always looking for student volunteers!

A Living Lab & Farm.

The GCUOF is a dynamic living laboratory where students and faculty turn ideas into impact. The farm supports hands-on, interdisciplinary studies spanning sustainable urban food production, permaculture, soil health, biodiversity, and food security.

Students and faculty interested in using the GCUOF for their research can contact us with their proposal.

samantha on the farm
Everything that we grow on the farm supports accessible food systems on campus, while providing students with hands-on agricultural experience. It's a great way for students to take a break from school while gaining experience, meeting like-minded people, and being part of something that directly supports our campus.

Roman Blotsky on a farm
Volunteering at the farm was a great hands-on way to learn about organic farming and get outdoors! It's a fantastic atmosphere for learning. A day I'm at the farm is always a good day.
