Enrolment Communications
To ensure you're prepared for your first year at the University of Guelph, it's important to start checking your uoguelph email account frequently. Many departments across campus are sharing essential information with you via email, including the Office of Registrarial Services!
We've included below copies of emails sent from Enrolment Services to your uoguelph email account this summer. If you haven't had a chance to read them yet, please do so, and contact us if you have any questions.
We also recommend following The Linc on Instagram @uofgthelinc for reminders and helpful tips related to course enrolment, academic records, finances and more.
Emails to First-Year Students
This email was only sent to students who haven't enrolled in courses yet.
Dear Student,
We're excited that you will soon be joining us at the University of Guelph! With the Fall semester fast approaching, course selection is an important next step to becoming a U of G student.
Our records indicate that as of the morning of July 15 you have not yet registered in courses for the Fall 2025 (F25) and Winter 2026 (W26) semesters. (If you have since registered in courses, please disregard this message.) We encourage you to register in courses as soon as possible because space may be limited or no longer be available in desired or required course sections. Remaining spaces in first-year courses will become available to all students on July 23, so we recommend resolving your course schedule by July 22 at the very latest.
Remember: Planning a course section with the Student Planning tool does not automatically register you for that class. Don't forget to register for the course sections you've planned before the deadline to add on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. for Fall courses and Friday, January 9, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. for Winter courses.
For tips on selecting courses, take a look at the Registration Guide for New Students.
Please note that you will not be able to enrol in courses unless you have paid the $500 registration deposit. Refer to the accepted payment methods and pay the deposit as soon as possible if you have not paid. (International students who paid the $2,000 international deposit are not required to pay this $500 deposit.)
Registration in courses is necessary to generate your tuition bill, which will be available on WebAdvisor in late July. Visit the Registration Guide for information about finances, including details about the payment process and financial aid. Students are financially responsible for their full invoice of tuition and fees if they stay registered in their courses.
If you are currently a high school student and wish to defer your offer of admission to Fall 2026, please visit our Admission Deferral website for more information. The deadline to submit the Deferral application is Thursday, July 31, 2025. Please drop any registered courses for F25/W26 if you intend to defer.
If you have any questions, we are here to help! Please feel free to contact us at es@uoguelph.ca.
Best wishes for a great summer,

The Linc - your one stop for help related to enrolment, finances and more!
Dear Student,
Now that you've started registering for your Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 courses, you may have come across the option to join a waitlist for a course that doesn't appear to have any open seats.
But, did you know that the course may actually have seats available in other sections?
What is a course section? If a course has a large number of students, it's not always possible for everyone to meet for a lecture or a lab all at the same time. The course would therefore be divided into smaller groups - or sections - which would be scheduled for different timeslots.
Before joining a waitlist for a course section, take a look at ALL other sections of the course to see if there are seats available in other sections. When you're on the "Plan, Schedule, Register & Drop" page of WebAdvisor, the left panel may not show all the sections of a course at a time, and you'll need to use the arrows shown in the screenshot below to view the other sections.

If you're looking at a course in the "Course Catalog", make sure you scroll all the way down the list of sections for the course to see if there are seats available.
Some courses have a finite capacity, and space will only become available if other students drop out of the course/section. Being on a waitlist does not guarantee a spot in the section, so please consider registering for another section if it has space available.
What else do you need to keep in mind?
- Restrictions on first-year courses: Many first-year courses are currently only open for registration to first-year students. Registration for these courses will open to all students on July 23, and it will become more difficult to find seats at that time, so we recommend resolving your course schedule by July 22. See the Temporary First-Year Restrictions webpage for more details.
- Winter courses with prerequisites: Please note that if you're on a waitlist for a fall course that's a prerequisite for a winter course, you won't be able to register for the winter course. You must be registered in the fall prerequisite course before you can register for the winter course.
- Check your email frequently: If you decide to join a waitlist, please remember to check your uoguelph account every day in case you're offered a spot in the section. You'll receive an email from WebAdvisor indicating that a space is available for you and that you can register for it on WebAdvisor. You will not be automatically registered in the course. You must register for the course section by 11:59 p.m. the day after receiving the email.
If you haven't reviewed the Waitlist help guide and FAQs yet, we recommend checking those out; they're available on the Student Planning website.

The Linc - your one stop for help related to enrolment, finances and more!
Dear Student,
Now that we're experts on course waitlists, it's time to talk about course restrictions! During course selection, you may come across courses that have restrictions. Enrolment in these courses could be restricted to students in particular programs, specializations or semester levels. If you don't meet the restriction(s), you won't be able to register for the course on WebAdvisor until the restriction has been lifted.
Here are the types of course restrictions:
- Temporary First-Year Restrictions: Many first-year courses are restricted to students who have less than or equal to 5.00 credits in total (or 5.25 credits for B.Eng.) that are completed, in progress and already enrolled in for the upcoming semesters. These restrictions ensure that first-year students have access to their required courses. View the list of Temporary First-Year Restrictions for Fall 2025 and Winter 2026.
- Priority Access Restrictions: Some high-demand courses are designated "Priority Access" for enrolment management purposes. The department offering the course determines if access will be restricted to a certain population of students on a priority basis. View the list of Priority Access Restrictions for Fall 2025 and Winter 2026.
When will restrictions be lifted?
- Temporary First-Year Restrictions will be lifted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23.
- Many Priority Access Restrictions will also be lifted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, but some courses may vary. Please see the list of Priority Access Restrictions for dates. If the date is listed as TBD for a course, the department is continuing to assess enrolment in the course, and they will determine later in the course selection period when - and if - the restriction will be lifted.
If you would like to register for a restricted course, please wait for the restriction to be lifted and then you can register for the course or join the waitlist on WebAdvisor. Some departments post updates on their website about their course restrictions; please see the list of department websites.
Visit the Temporary and Priority Access Course Restrictions webpage for more information about course restrictions.

Dear Student,
The new waitlisting feature in WebAdvisor is an exciting part of the recent course enrolment improvements. We hope that you've had a chance to look at the waitlist help guide and FAQs on the Student Planning website.
We have some more helpful hints and FAQs to share with you here about waitlists!
When can't I join a waitlist?
- You can't join the waitlist on a course section if you don't meet all the requisites and restrictions.
- You can't join the waitlist for multiple sections of the same course.
- You can't join the waitlist of a course section if you're already registered in a different section of that course.
How many waitlists can I join?
- You can join a waitlist for as many courses as you would like even if you're registered in a full courseload. If you're offered a spot on a waitlisted course and you're already registered in your maximum courseload, you'll have to drop one of your registered courses to add the waitlisted one.
More helpful hints
- You can see how many students are on the waitlist for a course section, and once you've joined the waitlist, you'll also see your rank on the waitlist.
- If you're next on the waitlist and a spot opens up, you'll be notified by email. No one can take that spot in the meantime. You will have until 11:59 p.m. the next day to register. Watch your email carefully if you're on a waitlist!
- If you are offered a spot in the course and no longer wish to enrol, please be a responsible Gryphon and use the "Drop Waitlist" button on WebAdvisor to free it up for others.
- If you register yourself in an open section of a course and you're already waitlisted on a different section of the same course, you'll be automatically removed from that waitlist.
- Instructors and staff cannot override waitlists, so please don't email them to request registration.
- Please be patient! Waitlists will move as students make changes. Consider registering for an alternate course as a backup.
If you have any questions about waitlists, please reach out to us at es@uoguelph.ca.

If you were granted transfer credit upon admission, you may be able to select courses earlier depending on the number of credits granted. Please check the course selection windows.
Planning a course with the Student Planning tool does not automatically register you for that class. Don't forget to come back to Student Planning and register for the courses you've planned when your course selection window opens.
For information about what courses are required for your program and for instructions on how to use WebAdvisor and Student Planning, take a look at the online Registration Guide for New Students. We also recommend that you attend the STARTUofG events on Monday, June 23 at 5 p.m. (EDT) or Tuesday, June 24th at 12 p.m. (EDT) for help with course selection. Recordings of the sessions will be posted. Staff will be available to answer your questions live during STARTUofG or by email.
Course selection for Fall 2025 will continue until September 12 at 11:59 p.m. (EDT) while you can continue to work on your Winter 2026 schedule until January 9, 2026; however, students who do not select their courses immediately may find that their desired or required course sections are full. At 2:00 p.m. (EDT) on July 23, first-year courses that are currently restricted to first-year students will be lifted, allowing upper-level students into any remaining spaces.
The final exam schedule for F25 courses will be available on WebAdvisor on Wednesday, August 20. If you are making changes to your F25 courses on or after August 20, please consult the final exam schedule. You must ensure that your courses do not have a direct final exam conflict when making changes to your schedule. WebAdvisor will not prevent you from registering in courses with a direct exam conflict. If you create any exam conflicts, you must amend your course registrations to remove those conflicts.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Enrolment Services or your Academic Advisor.
