Enrolment in AODA and EHS courses in Courselink

Upon appointment, employees are automatically enrolled in the following courses:

  • Accessible Service Provision (ASP)
  • Making Education Accessible (MEA)
  • EHS Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training
Only after TAs and SLs have been assigned their first work assignment and have 'employee' status in LDAP, will they find these courses in the "Resources" section of Courselink.  TAs and SLs must demonstrate completion of these courses by uploading the Certificates of Completion (which are available for printing upon completion of each module) to their Profile.  Forward this FAQ to new TAs and SLs: How do I upload my University of Guelph Administrative courses ?

Environmental Health & Safety

All employers in Ontario are required to ensure workers and supervisors receive mandatory safety awareness training, mandated by the Occupational Health and Safety Act ("OHSA").   At the University of Guelph, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) provides safety training,  regulatory guidance, and monitors compliance with the OHSA. To meet this training obligation, EHS has developed two on-line courses that can be accessed through Course Link: the Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training and the Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness and Due Diligence course.

Under OHSA a "worker" is defined as any person who "performs work or supplies services for monetary compensation."  The employment relationship is very clear for many at the University: regular and contract staff (including summer and seasonal), faculty, teaching assistants, and sessionals. There are other groups who have use of our labs and work spaces, such as graduate students, visiting professors and post-docs and in doing so, encounter the same hazards as staff. These groups are also encouraged to complete the Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.

A "supervisor" is defined as any person who "has charge of a workplace or authority over a worker."  Again, the relationship is clear for many administrative supervisors, but through the wording "charge of a workplace" experience has shown that this definition expands to include faculty advisers, forepersons and at times, may extend to others who provide functional guidance, such as lead hands.

Should a TA or SL (who has already been assigned a work assignment) not see the EHS Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training course in CourseLink, they can enroll themselves here: EHS Online Course Registrations.

Academic units may also arrange enrollment of visiting or special appointments by supplying a list of University of Guelph usernames (email addresses) of all persons you want to register to ehs@uoguelph.ca . Contact EHS directly by email at ehs@uoguelph.ca or by phone at extension 53282 with questions related to the health and safety modules.
