Some Tips about Work Assignment Postings

Be mindful of:

  • Faculty must be offered courses on overload prior to making them available as SL assignments.
  • What is and is not CUPE 3913 bargaining unit work (see Article 2 or consult with the appropriate College Manager). Non-CUPE 3913 work must not be posted through this system. For example, do not post work assignments held by:
    • Retired faculty teaching a course; or,
    • SL work assignments guaranteed to post-doctoral fellows in their fellowship offer. If the guarantee did not appear in the fellowship offer, the work assignment must be posted through the normal process.
  • Some CUPE 3913 assignments are not required to be posted. These include PhD students teaching as a requirement of their program as outlined in their offer of admission (this is an example of a Non-public posting).
  • The need for specific and sound required and preferred qualifications. These are the basis upon which the remainder of all the hiring process is based (remember the 1-1-1 relationship). This is how academic units defend their hiring decisions.

New vs. Edit vs. Clone

This is critical for accurate reporting. Refer to  What is the difference between Editing and Cloning Postings and Offers?

Can I create one posting for multiple sections of a course?

In-class and DE sections of a course in the same semester must be posted separately.

Multiple sections of a work assignment of the same format can be posted together (i.e., Lecture Section 01 and 02). However, even if a Work Assignment is posted for multiple sections of a course, an Offer of Appointment must be made for each section of the assignment. This allows a Seniority Point to be accrued for each section.
