Some Tips about Work Assignment Postings

Be mindful of:

  • Faculty must be offered courses on overload prior to making them available as SL assignments.
  • Determine whether the work is or is not CUPE 3913 bargaining unit work (see Article 2 or consult with the appropriate College Manager). Non-CUPE 3913 work must not be posted through this system, (this is an example of a Non-public posting). For example, do not post work assignments held by:
    • Retired faculty teaching a course
    • SL work assignments guaranteed to Post-doctoral Scholars in their fellowship offer; if the guarantee did not appear in the fellowship offer, then Postdoc must apply through the normal process as a CUPE Sessional
    • PhD students teaching as a part of their program as outlined in LOU 1 (Unit 2 CA) and Art. 11.05 (i)&(j) (Unit 1 CA)
  • Posting, rubric, hiring, and performance review must align and focus on specific and sound required and preferred qualifications. This is how academic units defend their hiring and, if needed, discipline decisions.

New vs. Edit vs. Clone

This is critical for accurate reporting. Refer to  What is the difference between Editing and Cloning Postings and Offers?

Can I create one posting for multiple sections of a course?

Where a course has sections being offered in more than one mode of delivery, the different sections shall be posted separately by format.

Multiple sections of a work assignment of the same format can be posted together (i.e., Lecture Section 01 and 02). However, even if a Work Assignment is posted for multiple sections of a course, an Offer of Appointment must be made for each section of the assignment. This allows a Seniority Point to be accrued for each section.
