OAC alumni from the 1970s won the OAC Alumni Decade Challenge, a friendly competition pitting decades of graduates against one another. Held as part of OAC’s 150th anniversary celebrations, the challenge highlighted both OAC pride and the enduring tradition of giving back that has shaped the College since its earliest days.
At the heart of the friendly competition was a shared commitment: supporting students — today and tomorrow — as they learn, lead and make an impact in agriculture, food, communities and the environment.
Decade Challenge donations fuel the OAC 150th Anniversary Next Generation Fund [1]. The fund offers scholarships as well as hands-on experiences — including field courses, internships and community-based projects — that build confidence and equip students to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
The Next Generation Fund [1] was initiated through the generosity of long-time OAC supporters Joe and Barbara Maxwell. Their gift was intended to support students and inspire further giving across the alumni community.
More than 30 undergraduate and graduate students have already benefitted from Next Generation Fund scholarships.
Though the Decade Challenge has concluded, alumni can still honour their OAC experiences and support the Next Generation Fund. [1] Up to $150,000 in matching funds from the Maxwells is available for gifts made by Dec. 31, 2025.
