Position Description:

The Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position in Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change at the Assistant Professor level.

Our next colleague will have an emerging research program advancing the frontiers of knowledge and practice in the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change, as well as demonstrate commitment to innovation and excellence in teaching in this area. We warmly welcome applications from candidates whose work addresses the drivers and/or impacts of global environmental change, and investigates human dimensions at one or more scales (i.e., local, national, and/or international). Specific research topics may include (but are not limited to): climate change adaptation and mitigation, vulnerability and changing resource access, gender, race, and environmental change, environmental and/or climate (in)justice, community-based approaches to resilience, Indigenous- and/or youth-led climate movements, climate migration and refugees, and/or the geopolitical and security implications of environmental change. The appointee is expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching programs, advise graduate students, and develop a strong, externally funded research program. The appointee is also expected to hold a PhD in Geography or a closely related discipline at the time of appointment. The position will ideally commence on July 1, 2021 or soon after.

The Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics at the University of Guelph spans the natural and social sciences, with particularly well-developed expertise on the interconnectedness between humans and environments. Our undergraduate and graduate programs highlight human-environment geography, environmental governance, environmental geoscience, geomatics, and conservation leadership.   1. A 1- to 2-page cover letter outlining research program and teaching experience
  2. A curriculum vitae
  3. A maximum of 2-pages research statement that:
    • situates your research program within the context of relevant scholarly literature, including theoretical framework(s) and methodological approaches;
    • overviews a research plan for your first five years at the University of Guelph; and,
    • lists references cited (this list may be in addition to the 2-page maximum)
  4. A maximum of 2-pages teaching statement that:
    • discusses your teaching philosophy;
    • outlines your approach to teaching undergraduate and graduate students
