Position Description:

The School of Engineering at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in the Biological Engineering program, with a focus in Integrated Sustainable Engineering, at the level of Assistant Professor. Applicants must have research expertise in such areas of engineering applications as microbial bioprocess systems, bioreactor processes, omics technologies for areas such as bio-industrial manufacturing of chemicals, materials, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals/biotherapeutics, food processing, and agri-food. The ideal candidate will develop an internationally recognized, externally-funded and independent research program, supervise graduate and undergraduate students, teach courses at undergraduate and graduate levels, develop and teach innovative graduate and undergraduate courses in support of the Biological Engineering major as well as common engineering core, and provide service to the University and the engineering profession. Possible undergraduate course may include, but are not limited to, unit operations, bioprocessing engineering, biological engineering systems, engineering sustainability, and bioreactor design.

The candidate must have a first degree in engineering and an earned doctorate degree in a field relevant to agricultural engineering / bioresource engineering / biosystems engineering / biotechnology / chemical engineering or a closely related field. Eligibility for a professional engineering license in the Province of Ontario is a requirement of this position at the time of hiring.

The University of Guelph has well-established and accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Systems and Computing, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering. At present, the School is comprised of over 62 faculty members, 34 staff and technicians, 1700 undergraduate students and 350 graduate students.
