Position Description:

The Department of Population Medicine, Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Ruminant Health Management.

Applicants will have a DVM or equivalent degree and be eligible to practice veterinary medicine in Ontario. In addition, applicants will have a post-graduate degree, at the doctoral level (PhD, DVSc or equivalent) in health management, epidemiology or a related field. Clinical ruminant practice and teaching experience in a DVM program is required.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership at OVC in beef herd health and production research, teaching, and outreach. In addition, they will contribute to undergraduate ruminant teaching in the DVM program and will have demonstrated experience teaching DVM students, ideally in both didactic and clinical teaching. Successful candidates will have a broad range of ruminant experience but will have some clinical expertise with beef animals. The successful candidate will participate in delivering core ruminant lectures and clinical laboratories, with a focus on beef health management throughout the first three years of the DVM program and coordinate the third year DVM health management course. They will also participate with other faculty in delivering core ruminant rotations in the final year DVM curriculum, and coordinate and teach in a two-week beef elective rotation. In addition, they will contribute to the clinical training of DVSc students and assist in the teaching of a non-DVM undergraduate course in Animal Health. As well, they will actively participate in the ruminant field service (RFS) including both routine and emergency farm calls, and out of hours. The current caseload in the RFS is predominantly dairy with a mix of beef, and small ruminant, comprising the remainder. The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong communications and collaboration skills and will use these skills to develop networks across broad communities of experts, effectively collaborating with faculty from multiple disciplines. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a productive, independent, and collaborative research program in an area of departmental interest such as theriogenology, public health, epidemiology, health management, or one health. Related peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations and a demonstrated ability to generate research funds to support graduate student training to the MSc, PhD and/or DVSc levels will ensure the successful candidate will be an effective faculty member with the Department of Population Medicine.
